Sometimes you get lucky

A freshman from the University of Pittsburgh finds a fossil while walking along a freshly cut road while on a geology field trip. Turns out that fossil is not only a new species of amphibian, but a new genus as well. Somewhere out there are several career archeologists that are severely unhappy. Some scientists go their entire lifetimes without making a discovery like this, while some stumble upon it. literally.

Adam Striegel picked up the rock the first time and then threw it back, then while the class was returning, he found it again and showed it to the professor, who knew “that this was rare.”
