Many of us have taken our digital photo’s and created a wide landscape out of several pictures before. Or at least tried. But not many of us have ever taken our digital photo’s and created a 3-D viewable landscape before.
Enter Photosynth.
Photosynth takes a large collection of photos of a place or object, analyzes them for similarities, and displays them in a reconstructed 3-Dimensional space.
You even get the ability to walk or fly through, see where each picture was taken in relation to another, etc… Pretty amazing. How well it works is yet to be seen, but the concept is rediculously cool. Take enough pictures and the 3-D space would have detail from nearly every direction and view.
Where will technology take us next?
UPDATE: Search engine watch has an informative post on the subject.

The 3-D viewable landscape have an applicability in the movie industry for a long time. It’s hard to believe it’s going to be a success for ordinary home users.
