Debt Cures That I Want You to Know About

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Kevin Trudeau’s new book “Debt Cures they don’t want you to know about.” Of course, in the comments, there were a fair share of people who truly believe that Kevin Trudeau is the snake oil salesman he appears to be. Yet, I still hypothesized that he is the best salesman of our time. For the simple reason that he can sell his products and sell them well.

While I am not the salesman that Kevin is, I’d like to share with you a product that I truly believe in. I first read the book while I was still running my money blog “A Penny Saved” and have been following it’s program since March(2007). In that time, I have gained a confidence in my money that I’ve never had before. I finally feel like I am in control.

I won’t try and sell the product as a cure all program. It’s not a fast track program either. But what it can do for you, if you follow it, is get you out of debt. Completely. You’ll have to work hard and live a lot less “good” than you do now, but the reward is the reduction of debt and the control over your money.

The product in question is Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover.” Yes, that is a affiliate link. Just because I’m trying to help you out, doesn’t mean I can’t make a little money from it if you decide to follow my advice. I whole-heartedly endorse that book. It’s made some great changes in my money handling and for once I control my money instead of the other way around.

Please take the time to take a look at the book. And consider buying it. I think you’ll be glad you did.

  8. William Perry Says:

Kevin Trudeau is practicing to be a politician. He never actually or directly answers a question presented on the infomercial.
He is repackaging and selling common sense readily available information. He has no “quick fixes” or “magical bullets” to solve your financial overindulgences. (just like a politician!!!)

Dave Ramsey preaches getting out of dept, eliminating “junk” accumulation and expense and reaching financial responsibility.
Dave Ramsey tells you to avoid credit card dept like the plague.
Dave Ramsey preaches “meat & Potatoes”. Kevin Trudeau is “selling” false hopes.

  9. Kenneth Harison Says:

I totaly agree with your statment that Kevin Trudeau’s tv add does not answer any question but even to a doubting thomas like my self, he got me hooked at least on wathching, hoping he would say something, just like a presidentian state of the union..I know his new book “Debt Cures” book promises have some valitity as I have done many of the things he mentioned not without direction in some cases. As such it might me worth something for informantion collection. The item that intriqued me was the grants. They exist I know people that have recieved them BUT I cannot find one that fits me. YES i did break down and purchased snake oil that promised (several times) with no usefull results. Thg Gov sites ar non userfrindly !!! Is there actually any thing that can really help?

  10. Thatedeguy Says:

@Kenneth: Check out The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. There’s a link in the above post. It’s done wonders for my financial situation and I’m sure it can help yours as well.

  11. Venitia Says:

Debt Cures doesn’t cure your debt instead it put you in debt more. Because if you try to return it you want get your money back. Even if you call to get the restocking number (if you don’t include the number when returning book you will be charge a restocking fee)they still want refund you money. I bought the book for my dad in October. He didn’t like it so I return the book in November it is now January and I still have received my refund. So beware of the 30day money back.

  12. Garry White Says:

Kevin Trrdeau is making my head spin by talking around all the questions whose answers would be so helpful. If he has real concern for those in debt, he would answer something rather than work so hard in getting his hands in our pockets along with the bankers.

  13. Sueing them Soon i hope! Says:

    These freaking people!

I ordered it, and figure i would get some for friends, then said no, canceled the order, and they charged my credit card, and shipped it to me anyways. I read the book, some usefull hints, and thats about it. I returned the items and they recharged my Credit card and will not revolk the charges, kinda a piss poor company is this? they say one thing then do another, caused my credit card to go over the limit and shipping charges back, great way to get out of debt by going more into it with a debt book! I would highly recommend to anyone just to get your Credit Report and find ways to get rid of claims on there and clean that up, the best way to get your credit back. As far as debt, i am filling for Bankrupcy as all the banks, and companies that will help, wont help, i am not $50K in debt, but $40K in debt, not a huge number compared to others. and yet these companies like PrimeAmerica wont help! great companies! thats my two cents!

  14. Lane M Says:

I found that negotiating directly with the CC companies is better than what I’ve heard about KT’s book offers. Appears to me that he has taken some of Matthew Lesko’s ideas about goverment grants and implemented them in his book. http://www.lesko.com.

  15. Lane M Says:

BTW, you can purchase his book through Barnes and Noble and Amazon for as little as $18.00 as compared to his “only available through this TV offer” for $29.95 + S&H. What a con job.

  16. Daryl Mau Says:

Thanks for the heads up. I too was getting suck into the hype
    Thanks All

  17. Susan S. Says:

I bought Kevin’s very first book (Health Cures)and found it to be a terrible read—so much whining about how he was victimized by the government. I couldn’t finish it. I checked out his second book from the library, it was a bit more useful. As for the Debt Cures book, I am totally skeptical, I’m waiting for it to be available in the library. And I have tried unsuccessfully to get government grants to help with my debts, so if anyone has been successful here I’d love to hear about it. I love this website, its quite helpful. Susan

  18. kelly Says:

i just saw this book on tv. all sounds wonderful. but i would never buy the book from a man who claims to help when he cant even give on secret to you for free when a caller calls in.. get him out of debt by buying his book is more like it. the people i would trust more are the people like all of you . who take the time to read and write your responses. cuz to be honest he had me wondering hmmmm does he have the answer. should i buy it? then i decide the see what the world thinks and looked up the reviews online… i”ll take the word of someone who’s bought the book before the sellers . so thank you who all take the time and try to reveal these people or what they really are..salesman making money from people who shouldnt be buying more junk when trying to fix thier buying problems

  19. robert Says:

I bought his natural cures at wal-mart. What susan mentioned before its true…too much whinning on the first book. Also you can get information on debt settlements for free on other websites like debtfreedestiny.com… I was also intrigued like kenneth about the grants and was thinking of buying the book, but after reading all these post i’ll just wait and probably check it out at a library. Or perhaps read it at wal-mart while my wife buys groceries lol. As for dave ramsey i believe he is really trying to help people out.

  20. Dave Says:

Just playing devil’s advocate here. Trudeau is not going to tell any secrets on TV because then no one would buy his book to find out what the secrets are. This is how he makes his money.

His book looks interensting but I do see alot of negative comments here. It makes me wonder…

  21. Freida Harris Says:

I order my first copy of DebtCures in Jan. I called and still no answer, I filled out Postal Form as of 02-11 still nothing; spoke with two Supervisors in Customer Service they were very rude one of them even hung up in my face. Basically he was telling me I was lying about not recieving my order still nothing as of today. Your talking about banks is a fake, I feel that you are to because your company is not holding up to its promises. Both Supervisors were men, I have they name at home so some one please call me.

[Editors note: We aren't associated with Kevin or any of his books so are unable to get you any further than you already are. All the more reason to try and find the book on Amazon or in your local library. ]

  22. Debt Cures Says:

    Hi All,

I agree Kevin Trudeau can be a bit shady. Ok, REALLY shady. But, I read Debt Cures myself, and Ive found it to be very useful. I was a couple grand in debt, and thought, hey, why not give it a try. I’ve implemented a couple of his suggestions, and I’ve already saved about $300 in extra interest I would have paid my credit card. So, is Kevin shady: Yes! But is Debt Cures worth the $40? YES YES!!!

  23. Brad Says:

I think you can read any “debt guru” finance book and pull out the good and leave the not-so-good. You can get a ton of free info on the web without having to pay a dime on a book, however the same rule applies on the web, buyer beware. I also agree with Ramsey on almost everything, except the 3-6 months emergrncy fund timing. Thanks for mentioning my website debt-free-destiny.com, Robert. I think it’s help alot of people get out of debt as fast as they can.

  24. Jon Says:

There is a lot of snakeoil in the world of debt. The debtmatters and debt free direct adverts on TV drive me up the wall. They pretend they’re there to help people, when all they want to do is make some commission while destroying their clients’ lives.

  25. Jr Says:

I must have seen Kevin’s commercial over 10 times. I wondering why someone would get on TV to say “I’ve gotten death threats” for blowing the whistle on companies, when that book is not 100% helpfull. Makes me wonder who to believe more, our current president or Kevin. (I think I’ll keep listening to Dave Ramsey,DO U AGRY?)

  26. Michelle Says:

I got sucked into this infomercial and it has been a nightmare. I called in the order for the book only and declined everything else they tried to sell me. The phone operator stumbled and told me the shipping has changed and the subscription to his magazine was no longer included. How can it change I just heard about it? Then when I asked for my total I was quoted $140.00. i about died! I said NO WAY I did not agree to anything but the book and she said since she already confirmed it she could not cancel it right then. What kind of scam is that? I called customer service right away and he said the order hasn’t shown up yet call back on Monday to cancel. The money was taken from my account right away though. I called on Monday and they said it already went to the warehouse for processing they cannot cancel it now. Hello! Isn’t it Monday like I was told? I called at noon and her snippy reply was, “We open at 6:00am how come you didn’t call ealier? What!!!! I politely told her that I had been at work since 6:00 am also but since I was working I couldn’t call on the phone until my lunch hour.(hmmm) Why should I have to explain why I didn’t call earlier. Am I not the customer? Isn’t the customer always right? Now I have to wait for my shipment in3 weeks and then return the product, pay for the return shipping and then get my refund!!! I am reporting this to the BBB. Do not deal with these people. They are causing more debt and more frustration. I am very angry and I never get this way. I hope no one else goes thru this.

  27. Ed Says:

#8 William stated that Kevin is practicing to be a politician. Really? I figured a salesman is supposed to entice you to buy a product, not to give you the answer, as in Kevin’s infomercial. Why would he need to give the answers now and not get you to buy his book. If some of what he discusses in his book applies to you, then great. But you want it for free as far as any information is concerned, then I agree as to his methodology to persuade you to get the book.

  28. jere Says:

    Michelle said:

Am I not the customer? Isn’t the customer always right?

Ummmmmm…you know better than that question. NO the customer isn’t always right! But of course you already knew that. It is customers like you that make a honest hard workers life hell.

  29. Ellen Says:

I want to know what are the 2 websites you can go to to apply for grants in 10 minutes?

  30. Gus Grisson Says:

Some of you have mentioned using some of the statesgies, LIKE WHAT, for instance??? No one has really shared anything useful!

  31. Kathleen Says:

I am curious, has anyone who has purchased the book gone to the 2 websites that Kevin speaks of on the infomercial and had any success? As the earlier post asked, would anyone be willing to give the website addresses for those 2 sites please? Curiousity has me now.
Also, has anyone had sucess from purchasing this book at all or is it truly all smoke and mirrors and just Kevin making more money with his tv infomercials and the people who truly need help getting out of debt only putting themelves $40 further in debt with this purchase?
Thanks for your website and everyone’s input. This is a great site.

  32. natalie Says:

kevin trudeau is great I don’t know what you people are talking about. he helped me get into a heathy lifestyle. if you actually read his books maybe you’ll see how many natural cures their are without using any drugs. The heath department is trying to shut him down because if people do find out their are natural cures for everything they would lose billions of $. So I would think before you speak. and stop complainig about the money becaus we all know you cant put a price on being healthy

  33. John Says:

As individuals, we need to truly look at our own spending habits and get them under control. Stop belly aching about who said what and where you want to find free monies. If we each spent under what we earned we could not only get out of debt, but by example show our children a different way to live life.
Get real we all have financial difficulties that happen … be it an accident, health emergency, home repair or a death in the family that puts a strain on our families finances.
The first thing to do is like anything else take account of total earnings and expenses. Then plan each of your purchases. You may have to make some sacrifices like having your cable shut off, but in the long run if it gives you the funds to meet your daily lives expenses … like food, utilies, rent … wont it be worth it.
In my own experience it has taken me five years to cut-up 14 credit cards and I presently pay what credit card debt I have … off monthly.

We all have different expenses and needs. Write them ALL down. Don’t forget them once a year expenses … inlude them. Keep ALL your receipts for a month. Once you have all expenses written down I am sure you will be a bit surprised on where ALL your money is going. Like most of us we are more than likely spending more than what we are earning (myself included at one time).
Just an idea you need to make some hard decisions on what you can live without till you get the accumalated debt you now owe paid off. Work with those that you owe … don’t ignore them for that will cause other headaches. You did purchase using credit … be it a credit card, loan or even using services like the hospital. So lets pay for what we use. This may seem harsh to some, but If we all pulled together and did this we could put the collection companies OUT OF BUSINESS.

  34. John Says:

Whenever I watch the Debt Cures youtube video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=0bGjYAL2Jds) I could totally believe that, as you guys mention, Kevin Trudeau could be a great politician. While I truly enjoyed his book Debt Cures (http://www.debtcures.com), I also realize he is a great salesman. Either way it is an incredible book!

  35. Bart Simpson Says:

I think this guy is a much bigger liar than I am. I think some of the respondents are shills. I agree with the poster who pondered why none of the “techniques” or “magic words” are revealed by anyone on this thread. Oh, by the way, my name isn’t really Bart Simpson (just in case any readers out there are credulous to belive the tag is a real name). Hope you all find realistic and successful ways to handle debts.

  36. cheryhl Says:

So does the book help anyone???

  37. cheryl Says:

what I meant to say does any of his books do any body any good? Has anyone got any good comments, I want to buy the book but after reading all these comments I’m thinking maybe I shouldnt….
    dept cures!

  38. Thatedeguy Says:

    @cheryl:

I’ve heard comments both ways about the Kevin Trudeau books. I truly do think that he has some good information in the books. I also think that the tactics that his company uses to sell other products and keep you hooked on those products can be a bit shady.

I can completely vouch for the Dave Ramsey book and the Dave Ramsey system. My wife and I use the system and it does work wonders.

If you’re going to buy the Trudeau books, do yourself the favor and buy from someplace like Walmart or Amazon where they can’t try and hook you with the newsletter and the “trial” subscription that turns into a 39.99 subscription.

  39. Debt gone... Says:

I was reading above and someone said they are going to file bankruptcy for being 40K in debt. DON’T. 5 years ago we were almost 125K in debt with many credit cards of high interest. We actually did a debt consolidation with Nova Debt. They were EXCELLENT! I would recommend them to everyone. They did everything they said they would, were very professional and great to work with. It took us 5 years of living very tightly but we did it. Our payments were a little less than $2000 a month for 5 years but it is all over and it feels so good to be out that debt. We had thought of bankruptcy too but decided to go this way instead. Best thing we ever did. We are now looking at buying some land and ready to enjoy life. It was tough I will say. We drive older cars and had to say no to a lot of things but it was worth it. We do not have high paying jobs either- both of us work in schools and we have 5 kids- 4 being teenagers. This has been a life lesson for the kids- hopefully they will learn from us and not do the same thing! But no matter what, life is good and we are happy and as you can see- we feel very proud of ourselves for accomplishing this. Give Nova Debt a call if you are in a similar situation and Good Luck!

  40. steve shaw Says:

kevin’s on is it the pharmacutical industry weight loss or debt fixes whats former playmate of the month got to do with anything?

  41. odessa Says:

Oh God, I just called to order it, and I thought, that will be the end of it - oh no - there was about 10 other things they were trying to sell me, all of which I thought was given in the book. Evidentally they are just something to get you good and curious and loose with your money. You know that old saying….curiosity killed the cat - well not this one (at least I hope not). When I was told my the saleslady that all that information WASN’T in the book, I cancelled my order. I guess we’ll see if they still charge me!!! Maybe not. I’m going to call my card co. tomorrow and tell them to block any charges from them!

  42. Samson Says:

Check out Winning the Cash Flow War (Wiley). Good solid stuff everyone should know…without all the other BS. You can get it in bookstores and at least it is from a real person…

  43. William S The Hardworking American Says:

  45. Yolis Says:

what’s the bottomline free advice or free website to really help your credit or obtain more $$ or get out of debt?
    Anyone willing to share

    …/y/…..

  46. Maxine Says:

I agree….Everyone keeps downing this book but no one is willing to share this website that you can go to to get government grants in 10 mins. Where is this site. Someone please let me know. I’m disabled and can’t get my Social security going. I don’t make anything. My family and I live on less that $1600/month right now. And I have to pay rent, lights, gas, food, water and everything else out of that and in TX the light bills are pretty high. So someone give up the website please!

  47. WKLaw Says:

So, has anyone recieved any info on how to get gov’t help/grants or is this more snakeoil & charms? I’m in a fix as many people are that look for resorces. Not saying this is a bad thing but we should’t be here in the first place if we used more constrant. Now that I am in the perdicament I am in - Is there any grants, gov’t help, ect… please share Thanks!

  48. Nicole Says:

C-mon people, NOTHING is FREE (except BOGO coupons from retailers) but definately not from our Government - look at our economy, gas prices & the reciprocal reactions that has had - EVERYONE is struggling… It is really sad & people are taking financial advantage of that! I’ve personally searched for MANY years & paid GOOD money to find out, as far as I know, nothing like that exists. WKLaw IS correct; it is all snakeoil charm. As much as I need money too, If I ever did find such a site or program I would announce it for FREE to help people. Good Luck & God Bless!

  49. Debbie Says:

Kevin Trudeau is a con man. I ordered the book one morning in a weak moment. LOL. Well later that day I called to cancel my order. The would not! They said it would take up to 2 days to “see” my order. So, 2 days later, after my CC was charged they could in fact see my order but they would not cancel it! I was so mad. There is nothing in this book that isn’t available somewhere else. Don’t get sucked into this.

  50. chuckyoo Says:

Wow, Thanks all. I almost ordered this book as he said that it was not in stores but amazon got it. This makes him a liar. I am not much in debt but is willing to change and be debt free with some help. I don’t mind paying for something that will actually work. What is the best help for resolving debts? Anyone??

  51. Beating Broke Says:

Resolving Debts can be easy or it can be really hard. It depends a lot on how devoted you are to getting rid of them. If you can be completely debt abstinent, meaning create no new debt, and very aggressive in paying off the debt that you have, you can quickly remove the burden and move forward with a debt free life.

Visit my site at http://www.beatingbroke.com to read more strategies and methods for becoming debt free!

  52. gump Says:

Go to the website below to find out about grants you may qualify for. Screw all those rip off people like kevin trudeau. He is nothing but a salesman & 99% of all the websites out there offering “Free” information are a rip you off to get your money. Don’t be fooled by their “Free” information. Read the fine print.

The web site “They” don’t want you to know about.

    http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/Benefits.shtml

  53. Me Says:

Thanks for not letting me buy the book. I am glad I did my research before giving in to The magical cure that I should have known better then to believe it existed. Anyway, a little advice I have been given by my Chase financial advisor… Your credit score will increase if you stay at least below half of your credit limit, example: Your credit limit is $1000.00 Then try not to use more then $500.00 of that credit. Also, I have high interest on my credit cards and she told me that I should make it a point to stay below my credit limit and make every single payment on time for at least 6 months straight and then use that to negotiate my interest rate with the cc company. Also my econ professor in college said your credit score will go up if you pay the balance off every month within your grace period. But do not attempt if you are having financial probs. already b/c most likely you wont pay balance every month. Another step I have made is to get my free credit report (which you can get once a year @ http://www.annualcreditreport.com, And finally, what has helped me is that I have a Providian (aka: WAMU Washington Mutual) CC. And if you set your account up online they provide you with your credit score and actually monitor it for you and will email you if it has changed significanlty (like 20 points) and give you other credit advice.

  54. C.J. Brashear Says:

    Dave Ramsey is a God send. I have read his Total Money Makeover and will begin taking his Financial Peace University classes in one month. His info is very, very helpful. In less than a month, my family feels great pride in our new lifestyle, as Dave says, “live like not one else, so you can live like no one else”. We are committed to doing what we can now, so that when we are debt free, we can pay for everything with cash. Check out Dave Ramsey, you will not be sorry;

  55. Government Grants @ Beating Broke Says:

[...] Kevin Trudeau and his Debt Cures and Mathew Lesko and his question mark-y free money omnibus, consumers are inundated with sales [...]

  56. John Kersten Says:

    To # 46 - Maxine:
Find your state’s equivalent of “Vocational Rehabilitation Services Department” ask for a case worker to evaluate your ability to work (with the intention of getting Social Security Disability Benefits). If they find you unable to do any kind of work because no employer would hire you (for a livable wage).
The Vocational Rehab Services should be willing to “Officially Support” your Claim for SSDI.
That’s how I got on SSDI.

  57. bob Says:

    Mr. Trudeau-
I’m addressing my remarks to you because, as a shrewd marketer, you are, no doubt, monitoring the internet for feedback on your info-mercials.
Thanks to these folks sharing their experiences of doing business with your company, you will not be doing business with me. There is no way I would give your people access to my credit card account.
    CLEAN UP YOUR ACT!

  58. Moises Says:

Using this blog helped me find my decision over not purchasing this book. The reason that I wanted to purchase it was for the government grants website that is found in this book. If anyone has any other ideas over government grants please let me know. 1- Starting a business and 2. Home improvements.

I would appreciate if anyone has any sources.

  59. Dobie Says:

A friend ordered the book and stuff. received the stuff in mail. and just today he received an email from debtcures.com claiming his credit card was declined and he must contact them to give them a new card to charge before they send his order. what’s that all about?!

  60. Y C Says:

I found his book to be helpful but not strait to the point, he does take you around in so many circles that you are dizzy before you finish the book. I was given the book by a friend because he is offering it buy one get two free. Here are few web sites I personaly have used good luck on your debt reduction it is like weight - easy to gain but hard to lose - but be patient and work on it using the simple advise that others have already given. Here are some web site that i have visited and foound helpful for myself. (These are websites I knew about and visited before I read Mr. K T’s book)Also most library’s have Foundation Centers with books and website subscribtions to government, private and corporate grants and foundations just ask they will help you.

TOO LATE, I JUST GOT STUNG!
Well, I found your website two days too late and $202.70 in more debt short. I just purchased the book this past sunday evening online. Purchasing online is something I do very often; however, have never seen anything like what I experienced on Kevin Trudeau’s Website as I attempted to purchase the “Debt Cures Book” Bottomline, I planned to only purchase the book for $19.95 plus s/h. Each advance forward presented another offer or item to purchase and the 2nd book was free only pay the shipping cost of $11.95 - Okay. (share a blessing with a friend in need?) In addition to all the other options that was suppose to enhance the use or compliment the book, you would want all the tools to get the most out of your quest to become debt free in the least amount of time - Wrong Mind Set.
BUYERS BEWARE!!! When you are going through the purchase process you cannot go back to change your decision and it does not give a total along the way as you are forward to various other items. In order to get to the end, you must say yes or no at each screen. I chose a few other items, thought that once I got to the end that I would have an opportunity to edit my purchase request before the final transaction was submitted. (like all other online purchases)
When I got to the last screen selected NO to the monthly subscription and pressed next it went to the next screen stating that my order has been processed providing a order id number. I hand no opportunity to go back to change the items I did not want, no to final total of all items purchased & prices, and no display of the final grand total that would be charged to my bank card. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AT KEVIN AND FELT BETRAYED!!! I immediately contacted customer service on the next business day being yesterday and was told that my purchase had not shown up in the system yet to call back in 2 days. I called back before discovering this website today and I was told that my card will be charged $202.70. This amount included $158.90 in product (?) and $43.80 in shipping cost. What they do not tell you is that you are paying shipping cost on each item ordered and if you pay to have the order rushed, that fee is added to each item as well. (not the grand total purchase) The catch is that the rush processing fee does not speed up the arrival time of your package, just the processing of your order with the normal shipping delivery date time frame after processing, remaining the same. The end results is that I cannot not cancel my order, it has already debited my bank account and it will be up to three weeks before it arrives. I was told at that time I can call back within 30 days to request to return the book etc. at which I lose my shipping fees paid and pay additional fees to return the items and have them restocked. HOW DECEIPTIVE AND SHREWD SALES PRACTICES IS THAT FOR SOMEONE WHO IS CLAIMING TO HELP PEOPLE GET BACK ON TRACK BY EXPOSING OTHERS THAT MAY BE TAKING ADVANTAGE. [BAD, BAD, BUSINESS] On a positive note I have tried Dave Ramsey’s Program in the past introduced it to my church congregation and they are still using it today. I have spoken with his financial counselers many years ago 1999, I will never forget that Russ was an awesome, concerned & patient man. It helped me and is a good program; however, I had to leave work to take care of my elderly parents and was unable to work the program. I just made a decision today to get back into his program, after hearing him on the talk radio show this morning, seeking the weather channel.

JUST FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER BLOG SITE

I know this is an old post, but Trudeau is still running infomercials for this book. People should be aware of this man’s history. I found this info on another blog:

in 1990, trudeau posed as a doctor in order to deposit $80,000 in false checks, and in 1991 he pled guilty to larceny after he had provided false information to obtain credit cards which he used for his own purposes. (probably one of his debt cures) he spent two years in prison because of this conviction.

in 1996, his recruitment practices for his multi-level marketing program, nutrition for life, were cited by illinois and michigan, and the “sec”. michigan forbade him from operating in the state.

in 1998, trudeau was fined $500,000 to be used for consumer redress by the ftc, relating to six infomercials he had produced and in which the ftc determined he had made false or misleading claims.

in september 2004, trudeau agreed to pay $2 million ($500,000 in cash plus transfer of residential property located in ojai, california, and a luxury vehicle) to settle charges that he falsely claimed that a coral calcium product can cure cancer and other serious diseases and that a purported analgesic, called “biotape”, can permanently cure or relieve severe pain.

most recently, in september 2007, the federal trade commission has charged kevin trudeau with violating a court order by allegedly misrepresenting the contents of his book, “the weight loss cure ‘they’ don’t want you to know about,” in several infomercials. during the ads, trudeau claims that the weight loss plan outlined in the book is easy to do, can be done at home, and ultimately allows readers to eat whatever they want. however, when consumers purchase the book, they find it describes a complex, grueling plan that requires severe dieting, daily injections of a prescription drug that consumers cannot easily get, and lifelong dietary restrictions.

No matter what your income is, anyone can learn to save and budget. People are too quickly looking for an easy way to get out of debt. Don’t complain because of your economic status or crisis - money is something everyone worries about. I own Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover book - I also listen to his radio show. He offers great advice that would be helpful for everyone. Don’t look for someone to give you money or bail you out of debt.

My husband recently watched a program where Kevin talked about getting out of debt and wanted to by the book and I I told him that when something sounds to good to be true then it probably is not true. Taking him to this website opened his eyes to the unethical practices of people preying on those who are looking to make thier lives better. Kevin should be barred from all TV and any other form of advertisement. He has no moral or ethical values and only cares about himself and his bank account. I would hope no one buys any of his books and the FTC does thier job and stop him from preying on anymore dsperate people.

This statement by Debt Management Courses sums the situation up beautifully. There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Work hard and be sensible. Don’t get sucked into schemes that sound ‘too good to be true’, because they will be.

  72. V Says:

Yep. I fell asleep with the t.v. on, woke up and K.T. was going on and on about how the banks charge excessive interest at will with the knowledge of government while targeting the poor and minorities, etc., causing people to become indentured servants, as his female cohorts egged him for more information on how to lower interest rates or become debt free within 24 hours. I wrote the number down and went on line seeking blogs on the subject. I found you; I read each and every one until arriving at the “Leave a Reply”. I am grateful for blogs, I learn so much through them. There’s possibly a blog on everything a person can think of and if not people can start their own. After reading through them, even locating others on the same subject, people can make an intelligent decision one way or the other. Additionally, I’ve seen K.T. on a show where he has been asked about being imprisoned and he admitted wrong-doings, etc. Maybe this makes the viewer trust him more. That was the day I purchased “Cures they don’t want you to know about”. The blogger giving the information about K.T.s misdeeds is also on point. I’ve come to realize K.T. is certainly a “MASTER SALESMAN” as he can really grab people despite foreknowledge of his wrong-doings, dangerous. But we must also remember, people like him will eventually have their day as no one can punish a person like God. With this said, those asking people about the “TWO WORDS” and not receiving a response from the purchaser are probably not given this info because of anger due to them feeling taken advantage of. They probably have a desire for others to pay for nothing as did they, and if the info is good, why not share. Shame! But this is their right.

For those who did share various web-sites, there are many. Individuals can type in something like “government or private grants to pay rent of private citizens,” for example. Generally something will come up. I’ll do this now to see what comes up…WOW AN ENTIRE PAGE CAME UP. Check for yourselves. You can go from there. Your unselfishness will be rewarded. I know because despite all I could complain about, I know I am blessed, even today. Had I not found this blog, I might have wasted my money. Some of you have received this same blessing. I know God has more blessings for me; however I realize He is patiently waiting for me to take care of my current possessions before He adds to it. It’s like money in the bank waiting to be withdrawn. God will continue to add interest until it is time for Him to release it physically, to me. God knows none of us are perfect; however he does want each of us to have life more abundantly. Remember “The Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”. We’ve got to prepare for this life despite what others are doing.

James 4: 1 thru 10. “You have not, because you ask not for the right reasons.” The rest of this chapter is also good reading, but it isn’t intended for you to walk around gloom and doom. Countered, Matthew 7: 7 – 12. Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be open.” Also see Luke 11: 9 thru 15. So be prayerful and believe that God will give you what you need and what you want as well but be careful what you ask for. I’m a living testimony to it all, that God will. Don’t get me wrong, although I am the wife of a minister, which you didn’t know, I’m not a religious fanatic, nor was my initial intention to say anything of this nature. I was just going to say thanks for saving me some money. You don’t have to agree with anything I’ve said, and I’m not here to convince you of anything. But I do know God for myself and am simply sharing some thoughts and what I feel may be helpful information to someone. God works through others and He is a miracle worker, making a way out of no way. Was it not for God making ways out of no way, and the emphasis is on the word “WAYS”, my family and I would not still be living in our single family dwelling. There is not enough time in a day go give you accounts of the goodness and mercy, His forgiveness granted me despite my imperfections and mistakes, my sins. I know God has forgiven me even when I find it hard to forgive myself. But I continue to try despite myself, to do what is right in the sight of God, ever conscious that He know and sees all. This knowledge keeps me grounded.

Each of you start today and make honest attempts to be better stewards over what you have; start preparing yourselves, your households to receive the blessings God does have in store for you. Be prayerful and patient. Tithe 10% of your earnings, this includes tithing from monetary gifts. Leviticus 27:31-32 “Of all we earn, a 10th belongs to God” You can read the rest for yourselves. Some say that’s in the OT. It’s in the NT as well but people make excuses to keep from God that which they would not have had without Him. Malachi 3: 8 thru 12 but read that entire chapter. Partial text, “Will a man rob God. How have I robbed you? Of tithes and offerings. Test me and see that I will open the windows of Heaven and pour you out a blessing that you will not have room enough to receive.” I’m not getting off point, what I am saying is that man disappoints, but God does not. God is always here for us, He never waivers. God loves you and me. It is man, we who move further and further away from God via sin. Again, God doesn’t expect us to be perfect. We are all individually and collectively dysfunctional in some way. Even the best of families are somehow dysfunctional. It’s okay; just try daily to be a better person passing the same to family and friends. And don’t look at those who seem to prosper via wrong. Matthew 5: 43 thru 46. The rain falls on the just as well as the unjust and time and chance happens to each of us, Ecclesiastes 9:1 thru 12. Your time and your chance as well as mine will come again. The question is, “Will we be ready to receive our blessings?”

Keep in the forefront of your mind that everyone and everything on Earth belongs to God who gives and takes at will. That’s better odds than coming from any man I know. Although some people receive instant blessings, patients is key. Remember God does not have to prove Himself to us. You and I must prove ourselves to him. I believe we start out at the center of God’s love, the apples of God’s eye but through sin, we move further and further away from that blessed center finding ourselves at various levels of conflicts. Once outside the boundaries, we can become fair game to the worst of us. Yet some times, I believe God allows some terrible things to happen to some of us in efforts to bring us together as a people. I know you have heard that voice within you saying do this or don’t do that, but you didn’t heed the warning. Many of us sum them up to being at the wrong place at the wrong time; luck, depending on the situation, etc, giving credit to everything and anyone but God. People call on God when they are in trouble making promises to Him only to go back on their word after the crisis is over. Take it from me, it is better not to vow than to make a vow and not keep it. See Ecclesiastes 5:5. I’ve done this and will never do it again. So be of good cheer, God is the answer to every problem we have, from “Aids to Zero debt, but faith without works is dead. Be the best that you can be. And know that despite how upright each of us may be, we will still face trials, tribulations and temptation, tests. Will we pass? YES. Jesus was perfect and you know what man did to Him. If a person does not believe, it won’t happen “for as a man thinks so is he,” and “Faith without works (preparation) is dead” James 14 through 20. You and I must fight the good fight. Let us prepare ourselves to receive God’s blessings. I have given renewed inspiration to myself. If God has reached just one of you through me, this was well worth my time. Blessings to all of you and prepare yourselves now, starting with prayer.

Has anyone heard of Suzie Orman, take your 19.99 and buy one of her books, now that is a woman you can believe.
I would love to hear what she thinks of Kevin

  76. Dee Says:

Belle, that’s a great thought, I would love to hear what Suzie has to say about Kevin T., and his way of seeming robbing people with this Debt Cures book. I must say that I have Trudeau’s Natural Cures Revealed and I joined his web site many years ago. I don’t go to the web site, but I refer to the book for health reasons many times over. He has some things in the book that actually work. If you are taking drugs for anything I suggest you use his book (along with many natural cures web sites) to find better solutions to better health. Read about things like DMSO and Allcin, chinese herbs and my most trusted friend now Organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar! I think Trudeau would be the last person I would listen to about debt as this is not his area of expertise.

  77. LoriBinVirginia Says:

Wow! Thank you so much to everyone! I had his website up to order this book–I decided to look around to maybe get a better price (yeah, I am in this position because I did not always look around before purchasing) and found this blog. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I think it is pretty pitiful that a man would monopolize on people who are trying to make a move in the right direction only to take advantage of them–

I still need help, but don’t know what to do. I want to pay my debts rather than file for bankruptcy but my creditors are not being understanding (I would think they would rather get something than nothing). My husband has not worked with any regularity for over two months. Thanks for all your suggestions and helping me to keep my $40!

  78. Dave Says:

I’m willing to bet that a lot of the positive replies here are from someone associated with the company selling the book, they sound way too positive to be realistic.

  79. Dan Says:

Kevin Trudeau has been arrested for credit card fraud, and he’s banned from any public servive announcements for life ( I have read on several sites), his “Natural Cures They Don’t Want You to Know About”, was garbage. He states where “Pure Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil” is one of the natural miracle foods. BS, it raised my Triglycerides from 150 to 389 in 15 days ( dangerous level). I completely cut it out for 15 days and they were back to 150 again.
He says you can clear all debts in 24 hours and owe nothing. I talked to a bankruptcy attorney about this matter, “today” and he said that the only way to clear debts without paying for them is “Bankruptcy”. Grants for free? Never pay back? I talked to the Senator from my state and he says there are no grants to pay off your bills for you. Snake oil salesman? Kevin Trudeau? You better believe it!!

  80. Tired of scam artists Says:

If banks rip us off, why would you buy a book from some asshole like Kevin whom use to work as one of their henchman? Don’t waste your money on this book, when you find out that it’s bullshit, you won’t even be able to get your money back, therefore completing the scam.

  81. jason Says:

within the first five minutes he says nobody knows their interest rate on credit cards and the banks dont want you to know. i am sure the banks would prefer that you dont know, but come on it is on every statement you get. if you dont know what it is it is because you dont care to know. this is typical blame everybody else for your mistakes instead of taking responsibility for your own actions. huge scam don’t waste money on this.

  82. Chipie Says:

I am sure many more can use whatever advise is available on this subject. Thanks for the pointer. If you make money off it, all strength to you.

  83. Rich Says:

I was one mouse click away form getting scammed
then decided to read these blogs, Am I glad I did, K.T. appears a little too sleazy for me, so I did a little research, thank you all for you comments,

  84. tina Says:

If you order anything and try to cancel but they send it anyway, refuse it at the post office and you do not have to pay to ship it back, the tracking number is the same one they used to send it to you, jot it down, that way you know when they received the product back. Thats one debt solution hint i can give you. I’ve had to do it before.

  85. Amy Says:

I was watching his informercial, and as one of those horrible bull collectors he talks about, I can personally say he is a liar. He is tricking people into thinking they can reduce their credit card debt with no financial repurcussions. This is not true. What he is referring to is called a settlement, and I do those with customers every day. It is good when someone wants a reduction on the balance of their card, but anything over $599 a credit card company writes off is required by the IRS to be claimed on the customers taxes the following year. Also your credit report shows you settled, not paying in full. These all have repurcussions he is avoiding when he talks up his book. He also claims credit card companies target low income uneducated minorities, which is an out and out lie. It’s against federal regulations to deny or offer credit based on any of those criteria. BEWARE: this book is a scam and this man is a liar.

  86. Clear Debt Solution Says:

I don’t know why anyone would buy ANYTHING from an infomercial these days. I haven’t seen one positive post about any of them unless they’ve been written by the company or an investor of the company. I hear one story after another about people being ripped off. They sign up for one thing then find there is money for other things being taken out of there accounts month after month.
