Nearly April

It’s coming very close  to the end of March and that ever fateful day at the beginning of April where every one seems to think that it’s a good idea to play pranks on everyone else.  I’ve never like that by the way.

More importantly, it’s nearing the end of my little 31 day experiment to post every day and hold some contests.  So far, I have to say that the contests have been a flop.  Little to no response for them.  It’s partly my fault as I did very little “pushing” of the contests outside of posting about them here.  And partly because contests have become so popular that if you aren’t giving away thousands of dollars of prizes, most people don’t bother participating.

One thing that I have noticed however is that my traffic has picked up only slightly, but my comments have picked up by a lot.  I’m sure that part of that is due to the frequent posting, but I think it has more to do with some quality content that has been posted.  And that is almost entirely the result of the frequent posting.

I’ve found something somewhat important in all of this.  If you force yourself to post frequently you are going to have some real stinkers.  But you’ll also have a few really good posts that came out of nowhere.  This post, for example.  Not 5 minutes ago, I was sitting here staring at my screen trying to find something that would do for a post.  I was drawing a blank.  But now, you’re reading a post that is actually fairly long and has a little bit of meat to it.  It’s not one of my best, but it is better than some.

While I don’t think that I’ll be up to keeping the one a day pace in April, I am certainly going to make an effort to post much more frequently than I had before.  Not because it will bring floods of traffic (although it might), but because it makes me a better writer.  And I like that.  That is a better reason for all of this than the traffic anyways.

Top 5 Referrers for January 2008

I very nearly forgot to do this again this month. I need to set up some sort of reminder for it. In any case, here’s the top 5 referrers for the month of January 2008.

There’s a few newcomers in there this month. I hope that means that I’m gaining readers, but it could be just a fluke as well. We’ll have to see what February brings. Still half a month to go to get a link for your site as a top referrer for February.

Top 5 Referrers for December 2007 (and November)

Ok, so I managed to do this list for September and October and then missed on November.  Not sure how that worked, but it did.  So.  Here’s the list of the top 5 referrers for December of 2007.

A big thank you to all of my referrers.  Without you, it would just be a nice big search engine orgy around here!

Ok, so to make up for the missing November list, here’s the list of the top 5 referrers for November of 2007

A big thank you to those folks (mostly the same folks) as well.

Top 5 Referrers for September

I thought I would share the love a little and give you guys a list of the top five sites (that aren’t search engines or social bookmark sites) that send traffic here. I can’t say for sure if I’ll do this every month, but I’ll try and make the effort.

These are in order from highest to lowest

  1. 45n5.com
  2. osworld.biz
  3. blogs.payscale.com
  4. problogger.net
  5. nicusor.com

Even now, four days into October it looks like that list is going to change. Wanna be on the list next month? You’ve got to give me a link. 😉 It is a nofollow link btw.
